NEW YORK, June 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ria Money Transfer ("Ria") has announced its support of the third annual International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR) celebrated today at the Global Forum on Remittances Investment and Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Since the inaugural IDFR in Milan, Italy in 2015, the day has received more than 100 endorsements and support from money transfer companies, including Ria, both individually and through the International Association of Money Transfer Networks (IAMTN). IFAD, as a specialized agency of the United Nations, has taken the lead in developing formal recognition of this day. Twenty-two United Nations agencies have also supported the day, along with approximately 6,000 banks, close to 800 mobile operators and over 300 other companies in the mobile eco-system.

Migrant remittances can empower families to live a better quality of life, lifting them out of poverty when opportunities to thrive are limited. These flows of money from migrant workers that have moved abroad to seek better opportunities for themselves and their families contribute towards general living costs, medical expenses and education, and can also serve as a direct form of investment.
